Patrick Hall is recognised nationally and internationally for his extraordinary, engaging and distinctive artwork. From freestanding chests of drawers, to wall mounted sculptures and installation pieces, each are accompanied by his unique poetic narrative. Despard Gallery is proud to present Patrick’s major first solo exhibition in Tasmania for five years, this highly anticipated show opens on Wednesday the 9th of October.

In 2008, David Walsh commissioned Patrick to create When My Heart Stops Beating for MONA. This major installation took nearly two years to complete. Comprising of 54 individual drawers that feature cut LP records, upon opening, each drawer has a separately recorded voice chanting ‘I love you I love you …’

In 2011-2012, the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery commissioned Patrick to create two pieces; The Art Cart and The Museum Cart. These are very popular with visitors to the Museum, in particular young people, who are encouraged to open the drawers, smell their contents or imagine what may be under the hidden layers.

Lost in Thought is the culmination of two years work from idea to completion, each piece is indelibly linked through Hall’s stories and poetry. Beguiling and poignant, the sculptures invite the viewer into the artists creative world beyond the physical structure of the art works.
